Sep. 4th: Hotel Wi-Fi and car parking
charges most resented extras, say holidaymakers
Hotels who still charge guests to use Wi-Fi
are simply being greedy, according to a new survey of travellers. Being asked to
pay expensive hourly rates to log on when many cafes and bars offer free
internet access was listed as one of the top pet hates of hotel guests. The
research, by Hotels.com, found that three in four people disagree with Wi-Fi
charges and believe it should be available free of charge.
July 21: The 2010 Swiss School
Awards Spa Management Certificates to Students of the University of
Delaware School of Hotel and Restaurant Management
Nineteen Hotel Management students from the University of Delaware
were awarded Swiss Spa Management certificates Spas in a ceremony in
Switzerland. Spas are one of the fastest growing segments in the
hotel industry offering a variety of fitness, wellness, life
enhancement and management opportunities. Students participated in
classes, hands on spa activities at leading spas in Switzerland,
Austria and Italy sharpening their skills for future spa management
careers.
This new program prepares future managers for spa management career
opportunities.
According to Professor
Dr. Fred DeMicco, Co-Director of Swiss Spa Management;
̄The program also enhanced student competencies for careers such as
athletic club and fitness center directors, spa directors, marketing
directors and a variety of teaching, training and consulting
opportunities in health food cuisine, interior design and spa
management ̄.
There are more than 29 million health club members creating billions
of dollars of business in the US alone. Complementing that, US
corporations spend over $40 billion on success training and $16
billion on convention retreats. The geographic market of this
segment transcends the national borders into international
destinations. Globally, hotels are adding spas to their offerings,
as increasingly their customers are interested in lifestyle hotels.
Hilton has planned to open about 80 new spas around the world in the
coming years for example
July 16:
TAC is among the winners of the
European Health & Spa Award
For the second time, the Agency for Wellness and Health presented
the European Health & Spa Award at the Spa Event on June 8th in Zell
am See, Austria. TAC Digital Signage was the only software solution
nominated.
Spas, treatments and innovative products competed in nine different
categories for the popular European Health & Spa Award, which is
given away every year by the Agency for Wellness and Health. The
Austrian software vendor TAC with its Digital Signage solution was
nominated for "Best technical product innovation".
The electronic posters of TAC Digital Signage automatically offer
all guests in the spa available treatments and appointments. This
presentation draws the guests´ attention to near-term treatments so
that they increasingly make use of these offers. In this way, dead
times are avoided and additional sales are generated.
Thomas Rössler, Managing Director of TAC, accepted the prestigious
award: "The European´Health & Spa Award is one of the most
sophisticated and recognized awards in the spa industry. All the
more we are happy that we can not only convince more and more
hoteliers of our Digital Signage solution, but also such a
high-class jury."
May 20th: Spa Benchmarking Tool
Now Available from the International SPA Association
The International SPA Association (ISPA) and Smith Travel Research (STR)
are pleased to announce that the Spa STAR report, a benchmarking
tool for all types of spas, is now available. The report will aid
spas in making well-informed and more profitable operating
decisions. The online Spa STAR report allows spas to enter in data
in three main categories: treatments (such as massages and facials),
salon (such as manicure, pedicure and hair) and retail.
Members of ISPA will receive an exclusive one-year STR discount when
they begin participating in the competitive set analysis. ISPA
President Lynne McNees said, "ISPA is proud to offer our members a
way to accurately compare themselves to spas in their area. STR is
at the forefront of the benchmarking arena, and has provided
valuable market share analysis for all the major international hotel
chains and brands for 25 years. Now, spas will have the same
advantages."
